The Town’s Pavement Preservation Division has partnered with Roadway Asset Services (RAS) to conduct a full pavement condition assessment and asset inventory of all Town-owned and maintained roadways.
Throughout April and May, residents may notice a specialized RAS vehicle collecting pavement data and roadway features including signs, supports, lighting, stormwater inlets, ADA ramps, sidewalks, and pavement markings. The RAS vehicle is equipped with sensors, laser technology and cameras.
Once the data collection phase is complete, RAS will integrate the information into the Town’s asset management system. Using the updated dataset, RAS will develop an optimized pavement management plan and a multi-year tool to optimize the maintenance of the Town’s roadways.
Over the last decade, the Queen Creek Town Council has invested more than $200 million in improving the Town’s roadways and transportation, with 86% of major projects outlined in the Town’s 2016 Transportation Master Plan complete or in progress. The roadway asset inventory will help ensure proper maintenance of the investment.
This initiative supports the Town’s Corporate Strategic goal to deliver superior infrastructure through efficient construction and maintenance. With access to real-time, accurate data, staff will be better equipped to plan/manage maintenance and rehabilitation efforts across the Town’s paved roadway network.
